Supporting a Greater Mission: The Broker-Carrier Summit’s Commitment to Giving Back

BCS Gives Back

What does it mean to be part of a freight industry that not only moves goods but also moves people, hearts, and communities forward? At the Broker-Carrier Summit, purpose is woven into progress.

The Broker-Carrier Summit has always stood for more than freight, rates, and routing guides. It is an event focused on building meaningful relationships and creating a more connected, values-driven industry. That focus includes supporting impactful causes that touch the lives of drivers, carriers, and the communities they serve. At the upcoming Summit, taking place April 28 to May 2, 2025, in Indianapolis, attendees will hear from two organizations that reflect these values: Wreaths Across America and Truckers Against Trafficking.

These organizations are deeply connected to the transportation industry. On Wednesday, April 30, representatives from both will take the stage to share how their work supports military families and protects vulnerable individuals across the country. Courtney George, Director of Transportation and Industry Relations at Wreaths Across America, will speak from 9:10 AM to 9:25 AM. Heather Fry, Director of Industry Training at Truckers Against Trafficking, will follow later in the day from 2:10 PM to 2:30 PM.

Honoring Service through Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America began in 1992 with a simple act of generosity. Morrill Worcester, owner of Worcester Wreath Company in Maine, found himself with extra wreaths during the holiday season. He recalled a childhood visit to Arlington National Cemetery and arranged for the surplus wreaths to be placed on veterans' graves.

That act of remembrance sparked a national movement. In 2022, more than 2.7 million wreaths were placed across 3,702 cemeteries with the help of over 5,000 partner groups and countless volunteers. The transportation industry, particularly truck drivers, plays a vital role in delivering wreaths each year.

The organization is driven by a mission to remember fallen service members, honor those who serve, and teach future generations the value of freedom. Throughout the year, Wreaths Across America organizes educational programs, memorial ceremonies, and community events that carry this mission forward.

Wreaths Across America is not only a tribute to the past but also a promise to the future. By involving young people through its educational outreach and Teach program, it ensures that the sacrifices made by our military heroes are never forgotten. Truck drivers and logistics providers are the bridge between these stories of sacrifice and the communities that honor them.

Courtney George will share how logistics professionals can get involved in meaningful ways. From volunteering to supporting wreath deliveries, brokers and carriers are essential partners in ensuring that veterans are honored with dignity and respect.

Protecting Lives with Truckers Against Trafficking

Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) focuses on confronting a modern-day crisis. Since 2009, TAT has trained more than two million people to recognize and report signs of human trafficking. The organization believes truck drivers are in a unique position to serve as a frontline defense against this crime.

Human traffickers often use the same highways, gas stations, and truck stops as commercial drivers. Through awareness, education, and action, TAT is equipping the transportation industry with the tools needed to identify victims and alert authorities.

Heather Fry’s session will explain how individuals and organizations can take actionable steps to protect vulnerable people. Whether through driver training, internal company policies, or community outreach, every person in the logistics network has the power to contribute to this mission.

The training and resources provided by TAT are entirely free and designed specifically for the realities of the trucking and logistics industries. This makes it easier than ever for carriers and fleet operators to bring real change to their teams, their companies, and the communities they travel through every day.

TAT also works with shippers and manufacturers to extend their impact through carrier engagement. By encouraging carriers to participate in TAT training, companies help build a broader culture of safety and accountability within the industry.

Why These Causes Matter to the Logistics Community

For attendees of the Broker-Carrier Summit, these two sessions represent more than scheduled programming. They are powerful reminders of the freight community’s ability to make a difference beyond daily operations. Supporting Wreaths Across America helps preserve the memory of fallen service members. Supporting Truckers Against Trafficking helps save lives and disrupt criminal networks.

These causes reflect the greater mission of the Summit: to create an industry rooted in trust, service, and purpose. When brokers, carriers, and drivers unite around values that extend beyond business, the result is a more resilient, compassionate freight network.

The work of these two organizations is not abstract. It is practical, visible, and deeply personal to many within the supply chain. These are efforts that change lives, strengthen communities, and bring new purpose to the work of moving freight across the nation.

As the Summit draws near, attendees are encouraged to hear from Courtney George and Heather Fry on April 30. Their insights will inspire reflection, spark action, and remind everyone in the room that freight moves more than freight. It moves people to do good.

The Broker-Carrier Summit invites all participants to support these organizations and explore ways to get involved. Together, the industry can remember those who served, protect those who are vulnerable, and build a community guided by integrity and care.
